How to Remove Underarm Stains from Your Clothing

LAUNDRY TIPS

From wine spills to sauce splatters, to splashed mud and beyond, there are so many things that can stain your clothing and warrant a load of laundry to be done.

However, among the most stubborn of stains that you encounter, underarm stains on your clothing can be particularly tricky to handle compared with typical food stains.

The stains that you see on the underarms of your clothing aren't just sweat stains, however. Instead, they're the mix of perspiration and deodorant or antiperspirant that can cause stains to be left behind long after your sweat stains have dried. The aluminum that is often included in these products can react with your sweat, which can then leave behind stains on your clothing.

You need to wear deodorant to keep foul odors at bay, but what can you do to deal with those unsightly stains that are left behind? Here are some household products you can use to get rid of those stains once and for all.

Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Salt

Create a combination of 1 cup of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide, and 1 tablespoon of salt and stir until well mixed. Apply the mixture directly to the underarm stains on your clothing and allow it to sit for about half an hour. Then toss the garment into your laundry as per normal.

Lemon Juice

Combine one part warm water with one part lemon juice and stir. Apply the mixture to the stains and scrub gently, then let it sit for at least a half-hour or longer until the stain is gone and the original color has been restored.

White Vinegar

Soak the stains with white vinegar and scrub it in for a few minutes. Then, add the garment to the rest of your laundry and wash as you normally would.

Aspirin

Aspirin might be great for alleviating pain, but it can also be useful for removing stains. Take two aspirins and crush them with the back end of a spoon, then mix it with half a cup of warm water. Apply the pasty mixture to the stain and let it sit for at least a couple of hours before adding the garment to the rest of the wash.

Meat Tenderizer

There's a lot more you can do with meat tenderizer than just tenderize your favorite cuts of meat. You can also use it on your clothing to get rid of stains. To do so, dampen the stain first, then add your meat tenderizer to the stains. Then toss the item in the wash with the rest of your laundry as you normally would.
